PRG Roofing & Construction Ltd

Rectifying an extension roof that failed building control.

Summary/Outline

We were contacted by a gentleman who had recently had an extension roof done and it had miserably failed building control. We went out to do a site visit and we were completely flabbergasted at what we found. It was one of the worst we had ever seen!

We went out to the address to have a look at why it had failed building control and we quickly saw how bad the job was!

We assured the customer that we could sort it for him but we would have to strip the complete roof to rectify the problems we were faced with. The customer was distraught at what had happened previous to us arriving but we quickly put his mind at rest that PRG would sort it for hiom and sort it quickly. We told him not to worry we would have it sorted from start to finish within 2 days!

As promised we got on to the job quickly and sorted the roof out and nobody would ever have been able to tell just what a state the roof was before we arrived. We left with the customer feeling exstatic at the new roof we had left him with. A week or so later we received a lovely email off the National Federation of Roofing Contracters (NFRC)  that had been sent to them by the customer  to show just how happy he was with his new roof that PRG Roofing had rectified for them!

Here's what the Customer said...

"Dear Mr Evans

I am not one to normally share stories with anyone but thought it was really important to share my current experience with you. Unfortunately, I recently fell victim to some cowboy builders trading under the name of Eden Design Contracts Ltd from Brierley Hill. I entrusted this company (who unknown to me at the time were rogue traders) to build me a second storey extension, which they claimed they were well experienced in. Needless to say these claims were nothing more than a fabrication of lies and deception. The whole job from start to finish has been nothing short of a nightmare. What should have been a six week project ended up lasting over 15 weeks and still counting. To add insult to injury they recently abandoned the job (without any warning and despite signing a contract) and left me and my family in the lurch with a very poorly constructed roof. Not only was the roof leaking , but, more importantly, it was not fit for purpose. (See pictures attached). The building regulations team at Wolverhampton council refused to sign it off on the basis it was unsatisfactory and advised it would need to be stripped and retiled. What’s more frightening is the fact that the builders thought this was acceptable.

As you can imagine, being left in such a vulnerable position, particularly with a young family in the cold winter months, was both a very disturbing and upsetting experience. Naturally, after such an ordeal I found it very difficult to be able to trust another tradesman. After much research I came across the NFRC and competent roofer websites which gave me some glimmer of hope. As a result of understanding the background behind each of these associations, I decided to contact Paul Gwilt of PRG Roofing and Construction Ltd in Walsall. From the moment I made the first call, I found Paul to be a true and honest professional who had a genuine desire to help me. Paul came over immediately to assess the carnage left by the cowboy builders and provided me with a detailed quotation to remedy the situation. We agreed on a date to start the works which I am happy to say were completed to a very high standard and before the stipulated deadline. More importantly, the new roof was signed off immediately by the council.

I can honestly say that Paul has been nothing short of amazing throughout this very difficult situation. His high level of expertise, professionalism, honesty and workmanship is only something that most companies can aspire to. Given a large number of consumers (like me) solely rely on your website to appoint a reputable and trustworthy contractor, I think that it is important to recognise any member who has gone above and beyond accordingly. I would like it to be known that PRG Roofing and Construction Ltd in Walsall are a true credit to the NFRC. I am not sure what your internal procedure is to recognise such members but would appreciate if something could be done to show my gratitude to Paul and his team. I for one will be using Paul and his team going forwards for all my roofing and building needs."

Kind regards
Amir S.
